The primary function of B cells is to neutralize pathogens by preventing them from infecting cells or by marking them for destruction by other immune cells.

Once a B cell encounters an antigen, it divides and produces a clone of identical cells, known as plasma cells, which secrete large amounts of antibodies. Additionally, some B cells differentiate into memory cells, which provide long-term immunity by recognizing the same antigen if it reappears in the body.

T-cell Lymphocytes

T-cell lymphocytes, or T lymphocytes, are another type of white blood cell that also originates from the bone marrow but matures in the thymus gland. Unlike B cells, T cells do not produce antibodies. Instead, they directly attack and destroy infected cells or cancer cells by recognizing specific antigens presented on the surface of these cells.

There are two main types of T cells: helper T cells and cytotoxic T cells. Helper T cells assist other immune cells in their functions, such as activating B cells to produce antibodies and enhancing the activity of cytotoxic T cells. Cytotoxic T cells, on the other hand, directly kill infected cells by releasing toxic substances or by inducing apoptosis, a process of programmed cell death.
